Newly Released Video Shows Chaotic Moments at Washington Hilton Security Checkpoint

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Justice has released newly surfaced surveillance footage connected to the alleged assassination attempt against President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner event at the Washington Hilton.

The dramatic video, shared publicly Thursday by Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, provides the clearest look yet at suspect Cole Allen as he allegedly rushed toward a heavily guarded ballroom security checkpoint while carrying a firearm.

Authorities say the footage captures the tense moments before Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers opened fire as Allen sprinted toward the ballroom entrance.

The incident reportedly left one Secret Service agent injured and triggered a massive federal investigation into what prosecutors describe as an attempted attack targeting the president.

Surveillance Footage Shows Suspect Moving Through Hotel

According to investigators, the newly released video shows Allen moving through parts of the Washington Hilton in the hours leading up to the incident.

At one point, Allen can allegedly be seen walking through hotel hallways and briefly entering the gym area while dressed casually in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt.

Authorities believe the footage suggests the suspect may have been surveying the property prior to the alleged attack.

On the night of the incident, Allen reportedly approached the security area wearing dark clothing, including what appeared to be a black trench coat, black pants, a black shirt, and a red tie.

However, investigators noted that the coat no longer appeared to be on him moments later when he allegedly emerged from a nearby side room and rushed toward security personnel.

Officers Opened Fire During Security Breach

The video reportedly shows Allen entering a doorway near a security checkpoint staffed by Transportation Security Administration officers and Secret Service agents.

A law enforcement officer handling a K-9 unit reportedly noticed Allen’s movements and briefly followed him toward the room before turning away.

Seconds later, Allen allegedly burst out of the doorway at full speed carrying what authorities described as a long gun.

Investigators say the suspect opened fire toward security personnel as he charged through the metal detector area.

In response, a Secret Service officer immediately drew a weapon and fired while Allen continued running toward the ballroom entrance.

Additional officers and agents also opened fire during the confrontation as chaos unfolded near the checkpoint.

Secret Service Agent Injured During Gunfire

Authorities confirmed that one Secret Service agent suffered injuries during the exchange of gunfire.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran stated publicly that investigators believe the wounded agent was shot directly by the suspect and not by friendly fire.

“All the evidence that I’ve seen indicates the suspect shot our officer point-blank with a shotgun,” Curran said during an appearance on Fox News.

Curran praised the injured officer’s actions during the confrontation, saying the agent managed to return fire multiple times despite being wounded.

“He was able to fire back while falling and being struck in the chest,” Curran stated.

Officials said the wounded agent had been wearing body armor at the time of the incident.

Authorities also confirmed that Allen was not struck by return gunfire during the chaotic encounter.

Federal Charges Filed Against Suspect

Cole Allen, 31, now faces multiple serious federal charges related to the alleged assassination attempt.

According to court documents, Allen has been charged with attempted assassination of the president, transporting a firearm across state lines to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Federal prosecutors allege the suspect intentionally targeted the high-security event attended by journalists, political leaders, and members of the administration.

Allen has not yet entered a plea in the case and remains in federal custody awaiting further court proceedings.

The release of the surveillance footage has intensified public attention surrounding the attempted breach and the security response at one of Washington’s highest-profile political events.

Investigators continue reviewing evidence, including hotel surveillance, witness statements, and forensic findings tied to the firearm used during the incident.
